Goryeong-gun Holds Completion and Opening Ceremony of Disability Welfare Center

Goryeong-gun (Governor Lee Nam-cheol) held the completion ceremony and opening ceremony of the Goryeong-gun Disabled Welfare Center, a long-awaited project for local disabled people, on the 5th in Goa-ri, Daegaya-eup.

Namcheol Lee, the governor of Goryeong County, is celebrating the opening of the Welfare Center for the Disabled.

The Goryeong-gun Disabled Welfare Center began basic and detailed design in November 2022, started construction in June 2023, and completed a building with a total floor area of 1,034.7㎡, consisting of one basement floor and three above-ground floors, on December 18, 2024.

The newly completed Goryeong-gun Disabled Welfare Center is expected to provide great support and assistance to families with disabled members who have struggled due to a lack of rehabilitation and care infrastructure. The facility is equipped with various amenities accessible to disabled individuals, including a rehabilitation exercise room, fitness room, and informatization room, and will also offer educational programs for the disabled, such as vocational training rooms and lifelong education program rooms.

The center is operated under an agreement with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled, with four staff members assigned to the Goryeong branch.

The county also operates the 'Daegaya Developmental Disability Daytime After-School Activity Center' within the Disabled Welfare Center, which is expected to be a great help to families requiring daytime care for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Lee Nam-cheol, Governor of Goryeong-gun, stated, “I hope the Goryeong-gun Disabled Welfare Center will be a welfare center that carefully supports every individual without leaving out those with severe disabilities or others who are marginalized. Goryeong-gun will also spare no support to ensure that this center becomes a good institution that can comfort the pain and suffering of over 3,200 disabled people in Goryeong-gun.”
