The story of a nurse from Chonnam National University Hospital who rescued a man in his 70s with emergency first aid after he fell and was injured while climbing Mudeungsan Mountain has recently come to light and is drawing attention.

According to Chonnam National University Hospital on the 6th, Jo Youngmi and Lee Yeonju, PA (Physician Assistant) nurses in the emergency intensive care unit, encountered Mr. A, who was descending from Jungbong Peak of Mudeungsan Mountain on November 4 last year, crying out for help while bleeding from his face and head.

Mr. A had suffered a severe facial injury and was bleeding heavily after falling while descending the mountain.

As nurses working in the emergency intensive care unit, Jo Youngmi and Lee Yeonju were able to provide prompt first aid and call emergency services (119). After caring for Mr. A for 30 minutes, the two nurses relayed his condition to the staff of the Korea National Park Service who arrived first, made sure he was safely transferred, and then continued their descent.

Jo Youngmi explained, "First, we laid Mr. A down and stopped the bleeding, then called 119 and checked his condition. Since there could have been a cerebral hemorrhage, we made sure he did not move and continued to stop the bleeding. We also checked for any other trauma and asked about any medications he was taking to keep him conscious."

Jo Youngmi added, "Having experience in the intensive care unit, I was prepared for any emergency, including the need for CPR. My body reacted instinctively as a nurse, and I am truly relieved that he was not seriously injured."

It was later reported that Mr. A received treatment at a nearby hospital and was safely discharged.

Mr. A said, "Thanks to the emergency care provided by the nurses from Chonnam National University Hospital, I was able to reach the hospital safely. I am very grateful not only for their swift action as nurses but also for the psychological comfort they provided. Meeting the two of them at the scene of the accident was a great stroke of luck for me."

Lee Yeonju said, "I was proud to be able to help not only at Chonnam National University Hospital where I work, but also outside as a nurse. I believe I will continue to work with even more pride as a nurse in the future."
