Released Last Month After Being Detained for Alleged Military Service Evasion
Following controversy over evading military service, Taiwanese popular actor Wang Dalulu (33, Wang Dailu), who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, was released on bail of about 200 million KRW. On the 5th, local media including Focus Taiwan reported that Wang Dalulu, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, paid a bail of 5 million TWD (about 220 million KRW) at the New Taipei District Court and was released.
Wang Dalu was arrested on charges of obtaining a false medical certificate by paying a broker 1 million New Taiwan dollars (approximately 44 million KRW) to evade military service, but was released on bail after paying 150,000 New Taiwan dollars (approximately 6.5 million KRW). Prosecutors seized Wang Dalu's mobile phone during the investigation of the military service evasion charges and reportedly discovered a video on his phone showing a driver being assaulted. Earlier, in April last year, Wang Dalulu booked a car through a ride-sharing platform to go from Taipei to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. While heading to the destination, Wang Dalulu suspected the driver took a detour to increase the fare and got into an argument. Then, Wang Dalulu left the car keys inside the vehicle and, when the car door wouldn’t open, punched the window, which eventually led to a dispute with the driver.
Afterwards, Wang Dalulu complained about this to his friend A, who offered to help find the car and driver. A hired people to locate the car and driver. They blocked the car and assaulted the driver, then took photos and sent them to A. The driver is reported to have sustained serious injuries. The police arrested Wang Dalulu and A on suspicion of attempted murder the day before. Arrest warrants were also issued for other suspects involved in the case, but they are currently on the run.
The prosecution requested that both Wang Dalulu and A be detained without visitation rights, citing the severity of the charges and risks of flight, conspiracy, and evidence tampering, but Wang Dalulu was released after paying bail on the same day. Only A is currently detained without visitation rights. The prosecution stated that they are suspected of inciting assault and violating the Personal Information Protection Act.
Previously, Wang Dalulu was arrested on suspicion of evading military service by paying a broker 1 million TWD (about 44 million KRW) to obtain a false medical certificate, and was released after paying bail of 150,000 TWD (about 6.5 million KRW). During the investigation, the prosecution seized Wang Dalulu’s mobile phone and reportedly discovered a video of the driver being assaulted on his phone. Meanwhile, Wang Dalulu is a popular star known domestically for works such as the films "Our Times" and "Playful Kiss."
