Samsung Biologics announced on the 6th that it has been conducting various events for its employees since the 24th of last month in celebration of 'International Women's Day (March 8).' As part of efforts to build an organizational culture that realizes gender equality, the events included special lectures for employees, a Diversity & Inclusion quiz event, and an official pose photo campaign for Women's Day.
Designated as an official commemorative day by the United Nations in 1975, 'International Women's Day' celebrates women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements and calls for actions to realize gender equality. This year's slogan, 'Accelerate Action,' emphasizes a strong drive toward achieving full gender equality.
On the 5th, Samsung Biologics invited Professor Choi Jae-cheon from Ewha Womans University to hold a special lecture for employees. Professor Choi presented directions regarding the roles and behaviors of male and female employees to realize a harmonious corporate culture under the theme 'Realizing Gender Equality from a Biological Perspective' at the Samsung Biologics Global Hall.
A quiz event to raise employees' awareness of International Women's Day was also held. On the 4th and 5th, Samsung Biologics conducted a 'Diversity & Inclusion Quiz' at the in-house welfare building 'Bio Plaza,' providing information about systems and benefits aimed at realizing gender equality within the company.
The 'International Women's Day Official Pose Photo Campaign' was also carried out. During the week-long campaign starting from the 24th of last month, employees shared photos taken of themselves striking the official pose with one hand raised within the company.
In addition, Samsung Biologics operates various family-friendly systems to support employees' work-life balance. It runs an in-house daycare center equipped with state-of-the-art childcare facilities, fully covering the difference excluding government subsidies. Parental leave is supported for up to two years per child regardless of the employee's gender, which is twice the legal standard of one year. Furthermore, the usage rate of paternity leave by male employees is as high as 90%.
Samsung Biologics aims to create a corporate culture where everyone can grow by providing competency-based evaluations and promotion opportunities regardless of gender. To further establish gender equality, the company plans to strengthen systems for work-life balance and expand internal awareness improvement campaigns. It also intends to enhance global-level diversity and inclusion strategies to create an environment where all employees can grow without discrimination.
John Lim, CEO of Samsung Biologics, said, "I hope this program has been an opportunity for employees to reflect on the value of gender equality," adding, "Samsung Biologics will continue to strive to realize harmonious gender equality based on a corporate culture where all employees respect each other."
