Geumcheon-gu Begins Expansion Construction on Cherry Blossom Road's Frequent Congestion Section

Expansion of Phase 1 Section from E-Land Haegarden Apartments in Doksan-dong to Geumcheon Overpass to Four Lanes
...Alleviating Vehicle Congestion and Securing the Function of the Auxiliary Arterial Road

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will begin full-scale road expansion construction to alleviate vehicle congestion on Beotkkot-ro and secure the function of the auxiliary arterial road.

Beotkkot-ro serves as an arterial road supporting Siheung-daero and Seobu Arterial Road in the southern part of the southwestern area. Since the road has 2 to 3 lanes, it is a section where habitual congestion occurs when village buses stop.

The district has designated the section from E-Land Haegarden Apartments in Doksan-dong to Geumcheon Overpass as Phase 1 and will begin construction to expand it to 4 lanes. Currently, work is underway to install guardrails and traffic signs, and to remove drainage facilities and sidewalk blocks.

After receiving special city road designation approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2018, Seoul City’s investment review and basic and detailed designs have been completed. Following the completion of construction project management services (responsible supervision) and construction contracts in 2024, construction has been actively underway since this month. Phase 1 construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

The construction site is adjacent to the Gyeongbu Line railway protection zone, so day and night construction is being carried out together for railway safety. In particular, the soundproof wall construction work, which has a risk of collapse, is conducted between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., when electric trains are suspended.

A district official stated, “Residents and users may experience inconvenience due to noise and traffic restrictions caused by nighttime construction, but we ask for your broad understanding and cooperation to establish a safe road environment.”

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We have proceeded with the construction to secure the auxiliary arterial road function of Beotkkot-ro and improve the traffic system to create a safe road environment. We will do our best to systematically improve and manage the road to resolve residents’ traffic inconveniences.”

The Phase 2 section from Doksan Station to Gasan Public will proceed with construction after collecting opinions from the Korea National Railway Corporation and submitting them to the district urban planning committee, followed by decisions on urban planning facilities (roads, railways). After completing compensation for buildings and land near Doksan Station, construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
