‘Wheels on Seocho Umbrellas and Knives’
A Resource-Circulating Welfare Model
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is operating a mobile repair service called ‘Wheels on Seocho Umbrellas and Knives’ from this month to enhance residents' convenience and provide jobs for participants in self-sufficiency projects.
Seocho-gu will hold a launch ceremony for ‘Wheels on Seocho Umbrellas and Knives’ at 2 p.m. on the 7th at Yangjae Songdong Neighborhood Park in Umyeon-dong and officially begin operations. This project operates as a resource-circulating welfare model by using a mobile repair center converted from a 1-ton truck to provide umbrella repair and knife sharpening services throughout Seocho-gu.
This service, available to Seocho-gu residents through prior registration, will be accessible from the 7th on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The usage fee is 1,000 KRW per case. Additionally, an ‘Umbrella Donation Box’ will be installed to allow residents to donate unused umbrellas, contributing to the spread of a sharing culture.
Seocho-gu’s umbrella repair project was first implemented nationwide in 2003, converted into a self-sufficiency labor project in 2016, and won the Grand Prize at the international environmental ‘Green Apple Awards’ in 2020. Since 2023, knife sharpening services have been added alongside umbrella repairs, and this year, a mobile service using a converted truck was introduced. The convenience of use will also be enhanced by linking payments with Seocho Coin.
Applications and inquiries can be made through the Seocho-gu Regional Self-Sufficiency Center website, and any questions can be directed to the Seocho Regional Self-Sufficiency Center.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “Operating the mobile repair center will provide practical convenience to residents and help secure stable jobs for participants in self-sufficiency projects. We will continue to do our best to expand customized welfare services that work together with residents.”
