Submits Proposal for Temporary International Flight Operations at Gwangju Airport
On the 5th, the city of Gwangju announced that Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Ko Gwangwan officially submitted a "Proposal for Temporary International Flight Operations at Gwangju Airport" during his visit to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The proposal includes an appeal from the local tourism industry, which is struggling to attract tourists after the closure of Muan International Airport following the "Jeju Air passenger plane accident," as well as an agreement signed on the 24th of last month between the city of Gwangju and charter flight agencies.
On this day, Vice Mayor Ko met with officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to deliver the proposal for temporary international flight operations and explained both the local residents' demand for international flights and the urgent situation facing the tourism industry. He also emphasized that Gwangju Airport has already operated regular flights to China and Southeast Asia in the past, demonstrating its full capability to handle international flights.
Meanwhile, on the 24th of last month, the city signed a "Business Agreement for Temporary International Flight Operations at Gwangju Airport" with the Gwangju Tourism Association, Gwangju travel agencies, and charter flight agencies to facilitate temporary international flights at Gwangju Airport.
