A rockfall accident occurred on the Iljudo Road in Buk-myeon, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
At around 12:40 PM on the 5th, a large rock estimated to weigh about 100 tons fell near Noinbong, Hyeonpo-ri, Buk-myeon, presumably due to thawing during the ice melting season. This area had also experienced a rockfall accident around September 2023.
The county requested cooperation from the police to fully block the road section affected by the rockfall and quickly removed the fallen rocks from the Iljudo Road using excavators. Normal traffic resumed around 2:40 PM.
An official from Ulleung-gun stated, “This area is designated as a steep slope, and Gyeongbuk Province is currently conducting detailed design work,” adding, “We will promptly proceed with the project to ensure a safe road.”
