Gwangju City Recruiting Apartments for Carbon Neutrality Practices

Gwangju City will provide up to 12 million KRW in support to apartment complexes that have achieved results in carbon-neutral practices in daily life, such as energy saving and reducing food waste.

According to Gwangju City on the 5th, applications are being accepted from 100 apartment complexes to participate in the "2025 Gwangju Temperature Reduction Excellent Apartment Creation Project."

This project is a representative citizen participation initiative aimed at spreading greenhouse gas reduction, with the goal of creating a "2045 Carbon Neutral City." It began in 2010 as the "Low-Carbon Green Apartment Creation Project," and a total of 736 apartment complexes have participated up to last year. As a result, approximately 30,359 tCO₂eq (the amount of greenhouse gases converted to carbon dioxide emissions) have been reduced, which is equivalent to planting about 4.6 million 30-year-old pine trees.

The target for recruitment is 100 apartment complexes with more than 100 households in the Gwangju area. Participating apartments must make efforts to reduce greenhouse gases through activities such as energy saving and reducing food waste. They must also promote carbon-neutral lifestyle practices, including creating a green residential environment.

The city will select 54 excellent apartment complexes through a comprehensive evaluation. The support will be as follows: ▲ Grand Prize (2 complexes): 12 million KRW each ▲ First Prize (4 complexes): 7 million KRW each ▲ Excellence Prize (8 complexes): 5 million KRW each ▲ Encouragement Prize (16 complexes): 2 million KRW each ▲ Effort Prize (24 complexes): 1 million KRW each. A certification plaque will also be provided.

The application period is until 4:00 p.m. on the 13th. Applicants can download the application form and business plan template from the notice section of the Gwangju Climate and Energy Promotion Agency's website, fill them out, and submit them via email.

We hope that the Gwangju Temperature Reduction Excellent Apartment Creation Project will help spread practical actions for building a carbon-neutral city in daily life."
