The Seokgok-myeon Office in Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that Lee Kangseok, an official at the office, received a letter of appreciation from the Gokseong Police Station (Chief Jeong Jongdu). This recognition was given because Lee Kangseok saved the life of an elderly person through his prompt response at around 8:45 a.m. on the 27th of last month while he was on his way to work.

While commuting, Lee Kangseok discovered a four-wheeled bike overturned in a roadside drainage ditch. He immediately stopped his car and checked the scene. He found an elderly person, estimated to be in their 70s or 80s, who had suffered a severe injury to the back of the head and was unconscious. He promptly called 119. Following the paramedics' instructions, he checked the patient's consciousness and responded quickly with first aid and other emergency measures.

Lee Kangseok also shared the accident situation in a group SNS chat used for communication among Seokgok-myeon Office staff and village heads. This allowed for the rapid identification of the injured person, and at the family's request, the patient was quickly transferred to a hospital in Gwangju for treatment and is now in stable condition.

Appointed to Gokseong-gun in 2022, Lee Kangseok is recognized as a public official who pays close attention to residents and actively offers help. He is also acknowledged among colleagues for his diligent and responsible attitude.

Choi Insu, head of Seokgok-myeon, emphasized, "The quick judgment of Officer Lee led to saving a life," and added, "Even small acts of careful attention to those around us can bring about great change." He also urged residents, "When driving four-wheeled bikes or electric vehicles, always wear a helmet and operate them safely."
