Hongseong County, Chungnam Province, announced that it will actively work to resolve residents' inconveniences by expanding parking infrastructure and alleviating parking shortages, which are key tasks of the 8th popularly elected administration.
Currently, there are a total of 75 public parking lots with 4,556 spaces operated by the county. Since the launch of the 8th administration, 15 new public parking lots with 754 spaces have been added, and the county plans to continue expanding customized parking spaces tailored to local demand.
To address the lack of parking spaces in the central commercial district of Naepo New Town, the county plans to investigate the current use of annexed parking lots and the installation of barriers, and to develop measures for joint use and opening of parking lots.
Additionally, fixed CCTV cameras for illegal parking enforcement will be installed in the first half of the year to establish parking order, and in cooperation with Chungnam Province, a parking tower with 270 spaces will be built in the central commercial district.
In particular, to respond to the changing parking environment such as the Hongseongcheon District Comprehensive Flood Disaster Management Project, the county plans to secure 23 billion KRW in national and provincial funds to build a large-scale public parking lot.
The Ogwan-ri public parking lot with 177 spaces and the Myeongdong Shopping District public parking lot with 210 spaces are being actively promoted with the goal of completion by 2026. The plan is also to begin full-scale construction of the Hongseong Traditional Market public parking lot with 124 spaces in 2026.
Along with this, as the restoration of Hongju Eupseong Fortress and the relocation of the county office are expected to increase parking demand in the surrounding area, the county plans to build a new Okam public parking lot with 300 spaces to expand parking capacity.
As the cost of acquiring land for public parking lots continues to rise, increasing the burden of project implementation, the county will actively utilize county-owned and idle land, and strengthen cooperation with the central government and Chungnam Province to secure national and provincial funds and alleviate the financial burden.
Kim Juhwan, Director of Regional Development for the county, said, "We will do our best to improve residents' parking convenience and lay the foundation for urban revitalization through continuous expansion of parking infrastructure and efficient management."
