Gwangju Nam-gu District (District Mayor Kim Byungnae) announced on the 5th that it will carry out facility improvement projects, such as replacing old drainage pipes in customer restrooms, to enhance convenience for consumers using Mudeung Market.
The Mudeung Market facility improvement project, with a budget of 30 million KRW, will begin in the middle of this month.
This project was launched after being selected for a public contest held earlier this year by the Korea Economic Association. Nam-gu District participated in this contest because the aging facilities of the Mudeung Market shopping complex have led to repeated risks of fire due to electrical short circuits and inconvenience for customers caused by sewage pipe backflow in public restrooms.
The Mudeung Market shopping complex was built in 1978, and over the past 50 years, signs of aging facilities have appeared throughout the building. Accordingly, the district plans to replace about 30 drainage pipes that have leaks and cracks starting in the middle of this month, and will also carry out installation work for drip trays and PVC pipes. The customer restroom, which has been closed due to sewage backflow, will also be newly opened after maintenance of the sewage pipeline and facility improvements.
A district official said, "Once the Mudeung Market facility improvement project is completed, it will greatly enhance the convenience of traditional market customers, which is expected to help merchants operate their stores more efficiently."
