SonyD-ClairPixel "Leading Security, Automotive, and Bio Image Sensor Markets with OnSensorAI Technology"

SonyD-ClairPixel "Leading Security, Automotive, and Bio Image Sensor Markets with OnSensorAI Technology"

ClairePixel, a specialized image sensor company led by CEO Jeong Heon-jun, announced that it is targeting the On Sensor AI market based on its leading technologies in security, automotive, and biomedical camera fields. The company is a fabless semiconductor design firm specializing in complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) based image sensors.

KOSDAQ-listed company Sonid stated on the 5th, “With the AI market blossoming, ClairePixel, which we acquired last year, is expected to experience significant growth,” adding, “We anticipate a synergy effect between SonidAI, another subsidiary possessing On Device AI technology, and ClairePixel’s On Sensor AI capabilities.”

On Sensor AI is a technology that enables AI processing directly within the sensor itself. While traditional image sensors only collect data, On Sensor AI technology performs pre-processing and analysis, offering advantages such as real-time processing, reduced data transmission volume, lower power consumption, and enhanced security.

Founded in 2007, ClairePixel participated in national projects led by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy from its early days and attracted investments from prominent global companies such as Samsung Ventures, Hyundai Motor, and LG Electronics. Notably, in 2008, the company received the Prime Minister’s Award at the Korea Semiconductor Design Competition, recognizing its technological prowess. The core of the company’s design technology lies in implementing a technology that previously required three separate chips?sensor, wide dynamic range (WDR), and memory?into a single chip.

The company’s CMOS image sensors are widely applied in ▲security surveillance (CCTV cameras, Internet Protocol cameras) ▲automotive (black box cameras, rearview cameras) ▲medical devices (medical cameras). They are also utilized in camera detection sensors and Internet TV (IPTV) remote control sensors, among other fields.

Major achievements include supplying wafers, application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for special purposes, and advanced sensors to leading companies such as Samsung Electronics, MCNEX, Hikvision, Neolab, and Intromedic. Through these efforts, ClairePixel has gained recognition for its technology in the global market.

Image sensors are a technology with significant growth potential, applicable in diverse fields such as security, automotive, medical, and bio. According to data from Yole Development, the CMOS image sensor market is projected to grow from $17.7 billion (approximately 23.7 trillion KRW) in 2020 to $25.8 billion (approximately 34.5 trillion KRW) by 2026, at a compound annual growth rate of 6.7%.

A ClairePixel representative stated, “Sonid’s subsidiary SonidAI has launched the On Device AI video analysis solution ‘BrainBot’ and is pioneering the AI CCTV field,” adding, “By integrating our core On Sensor AI image sensor fabless technology, we expect to further enhance our competitiveness in the future AI vision market.”

Meanwhile, Sonid acquired ClairePixel last year, purchasing a 50.7% stake to become the largest shareholder.
