On this day, about 50 people, including 30 households of Yeongju City’s return-to-farming and return-to-village association officials, trainees, and their families, attended to celebrate the beginning of a new farming life together.

The enrolled trainees will complete various programs such as practical agricultural training, smart farm operation, and field experience over the next year to prepare for stable agricultural settlement.

This year, the regional distribution of the 30 enrolled households showed high interest from residents of large cities returning to farming in Yeongju, with 20 households from the Seoul metropolitan area and 10 households from Daegu and Gyeongnam regions.

‘Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town’ is a stay-type support facility that provides urban residents who wish to return to farming and rural areas in Yeongju City with agricultural education for a certain period to help them settle stably. Trainees can receive practical training and experience actual rural life by utilizing experiential infrastructure such as vegetable gardens, education centers, smart farms, and facility greenhouses.

Over the next 10 months, the trainees will complete a systematic education course of 280 hours, including exploring crops of interest, agricultural practice, and field experience, to enhance their understanding of agriculture and rural areas.

The city plans to provide customized return-to-farming policies and regional integration programs to help trainees settle stably in the area. In particular, it aims to operate ‘Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town without U-turns’ to enable continuous networking and support even after returning to farming.

Director Han Sang-suk said, “As the name Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town suggests, we will provide wholehearted support so that the dreams of returning to farming and rural life can be realized,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that trainees communicate smoothly with local residents and coexist harmoniously.”

Yeongju City plans to actively promote the city and Sobaeksan Gwineung Dream Town by operating short-term education programs for retirees from large corporations and continuously expand the demand for return-to-farming and rural living through related special lectures.
