Since being appointed as a teacher in 1984, Superintendent Ko has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Award at the National Science Exhibition and the Superintendent's Commendation for improving teaching and learning methods. He has also been awarded two Ministerial Commendations and has made significant contributions to the development of education in Jeonnam as a distinguished teacher at research schools, in-service training instructor, supervisor, and advisory committee member.

In March 2023, he was inaugurated as the 33rd superintendent of Yeonggwang Office of Education. Over the past two years, he published a 128-year history of Yeonggwang education, highlighting Yeonggwang as the birthplace of modern school education and instilling pride among Yeonggwang residents.

He has especially dedicated himself to the advancement of education in Yeonggwang County through initiatives such as Yeongho-Nam education exchanges and multicultural art club Rockmu performances. As he approaches retirement, his participation in the Hometown Love Donation Program has touched many with its warmth.

Upon delivering his donation, Superintendent Ko stated, "I am grateful to have spent the final years of my teaching career in Yeonggwang County, and I hope that the Hometown Love Donation will help create better educational environments in both Yeonggwang and Gwangyang."

Jang Seil, the governor of Yeonggwang County, said, "I sincerely congratulate Superintendent Ko Gwangjin on his retirement, who has led Jeonnam education with warm leadership and deep affection. We will strive to ensure that the Hometown Love Donation Program becomes a great help to local governments facing financial difficulties."
