LG Energy Solution Unveils 46 Series Battery for the First Time at InterBattery

Aptera Motors Vehicle and More
Showcasing Various Battery Solutions

LG Energy Solution announced on the 5th that it participated in INTERBATTERY 2025, the largest battery industry exhibition in Korea, showcasing award-winning products such as the 'Cylindrical 46 Series Battery' and 'CAS (Cell Array Structure)' technology.

LG Energy Solution set up the largest booth among exhibitors, covering a total area of 540㎡, and organized five main zones: the Hero Battery Solution Zone, EV Battery Solution Zone, Non-EV Battery Solution Zone, Future Readiness Zone, and Sustainability Zone, to present next-generation battery technologies. A representative from LG Energy Solution stated, "We showcased the best battery technology based on challenge and innovation," adding, "We will continue to develop technologies that exceed industry expectations to realize customer value and a sustainable future."

Looking at the main products on display, the Cylindrical 46 Series Battery in the centrally located Hero Battery Solution Zone attracted the most attention. The Cylindrical 46 Series Battery is an advanced product that improves all factors determining battery competitiveness, including driving range, charging speed, and safety. It offers at least five times the energy density of the existing 2170 battery, applies next-generation battery technology to significantly enhance energy efficiency, and notably strengthens safety through the high-efficiency 'Directional Venting' technology that controls venting direction.

The showcased 'CAS (Cell Array Structure)' technology is a battery pack solution that maximizes the performance of the 46 Series Battery and enhances safety. It provides advanced cooling efficiency and thermal runaway prevention, strengthens structural rigidity, and prevents warping that may occur during pack and module assembly. Additionally, it allows flexible stacking of cells in both vertical and horizontal directions, enabling various battery pack designs.

Pouch-type LFP CTP (Cell-To-Pack) cell units and HV (High-Voltage) Mid-Ni (Mid-Nickel) batteries were also exhibited. Compared to the existing Module-to-Pack (MTP) method, CTP reduces the number of components, simplifying the process and maximizing energy density per pack unit. The HV Mid-Ni cell expands the voltage range up to 4.4V compared to conventional batteries, increasing energy and lowering costs, securing both energy density and price competitiveness.

In the EV Battery Solution Zone, Aptera Motors' solar-powered three-wheeled vehicle and the Porsche Taycan Turbo model were displayed. Both models are equipped with LG Energy Solution batteries. The Non-EV Battery Solution Zone introduced various applications such as robots, ships, UAM (Urban Air Mobility), and satellites, and showcased the JF2 DC-Link power grid system equipped with the 2nd generation JF2 cell for ESS (Energy Storage System), which is scheduled for mass production next month.

In the Future Readiness Zone, one of the INTERBATTERY Awards winners, B-lifecare, was exhibited. B-lifecare is a service that diagnoses battery status like a human health checkup and provides customized guidance on driving and charging habits. Additionally, in the Sustainability Zone, products from the Re-All campaign were showcased, including a battery recycling ecosystem, cobalt cathode materials made from 100% recycled materials, and small crossbody bags and pouches made from waste separators.
