Yongin City Supports 44.7 Billion KRW in Meal Expenses for 222 Schools This Year

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that it will invest 44.7 billion KRW this year in a school meal support project for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students.

Yongin City Supports 44.7 Billion KRW in Meal Expenses for 222 Schools This Year

This accounts for 32% of the total school meal budget of 139.78097 billion KRW within the jurisdiction. The remaining budget is shared by Gyeonggi Province and the Office of Education at 14% and 54%, respectively. The budget will be used to support meals for 128,067 students enrolled in 222 private kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools in the region.


Along with free meal support, the city has separately allocated 4.5 billion KRW for the "Yongin City Eco-friendly Excellent Agricultural Products School Meal Support Project" to improve the quality of school meals. This project subsidizes a portion of the cost of purchasing ingredients for schools so that the ingredients used in school meals can be eco-friendly excellent agricultural products produced locally. The support targets a total of 180 institutions, including 5 kindergartens and 2 special schools.


Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "We will gradually expand eco-friendly school meals and thoroughly manage to maintain a clean meal environment."
