Accelerating Market Penetration Through Mass Production in the First Half of the Year
LG Chem announced on the 5th that it will showcase the country's first precursor-free cathode material(LPF·LG Precursor Free)at InterBattery2025 held at COEX, Seoul.
Starting mass production of LPF cathode materials in the first half of this year, LG Chem plans to provide differentiated customer-tailored solutions in terms of performance, cost, and eco-friendliness by expanding the application of LPF technology to new products in the future.
LG Chem's LPF cathode material is characterized by a process that directly calcines a custom-designed metal without separately producing a precursor, resulting in improved performance such as low-temperature output and significantly reducing the time required to develop new precursors.
Due to these advantages, it is expected to contribute to reducing investment costs for expanding precursor production capacity and to lowering wastewater and carbon emissions generated during the precursor production process.
At the exhibition, LG Chem will present various product lines and technical solutions that enhance cost-effectiveness for mass-market electric vehicles, in addition to its existing main cathode products, high nickel (High Ni), under the theme "Sustainable Future, Powered by LG Chem."
Along with the ultra-high nickel product line, which mainly contains over 96% nickel, LG Chem will introduce high-voltage mid nickel (Mid Ni), high-density lithium iron phosphate (LFP), and a differentiated LFP product line blended with NCM, as well as showcase its manufacturing competitiveness utilizing core technologies such as single-particle technology and smart factories.
Additionally, LG Chem will unveil a wide range of next-generation innovative materials including safety materials such as Nexula™ (Aerogel Thermal Barrier) that block flames and thermal runaway, FBF (Flame Barrier Foam), FBS (Flame Barrier Sheet), EV charging materials like cables and housings, and cathode materials for dry electrodes and all-solid-state batteries.
Shin Hak-cheol, Vice Chairman of LG Chem, stated, "We will actively target the future market with next-generation innovative materials in the battery sector such as LPF cathode materials and safety materials," adding, "LG Chem will lead the battery materials market through continuous technological innovation and customer-centric solutions."
