Gwanak-gu to Support 'Green Leader Environmental Clubs' up to 2 Million Won for Activities like Plogging

Gwanak-gu (District Mayor Park Jun-hee) is recruiting the ‘Gwanak Green Leader Environmental Club’ until March 10 to encourage carbon-neutral lifestyle practices within the region and enhance climate crisis response capabilities.

The ‘Gwanak Green Leader Environmental Club’ is a club where residents take the initiative to voluntarily promote carbon-neutral practices. Together with Gwanak-gu, the club will lead the spread of a carbon-neutral culture and the formation of consensus on the climate crisis within the local community.

The recruitment theme is ‘Everyday Practice Activities for Creating a Carbon-Neutral and Clean Gwanak.’

The district is calling for various activities to promote carbon neutrality in the region, including ▲a campaign to reduce plastic use by using reusable shopping bags ▲plogging along Gwanak-gu’s Byeolbit Naerimcheon Stream, Gwanaksan Mountain, and Sharosu-gil ▲operation of resource circulation flea markets ▲production of upcycled products ▲trash picking activities and recycling separation.

The selected clubs will carry out activities from April to November this year, with a minimum of two activities per month required. In particular, participation in the district’s Earth Day (April 22) and Environment Day (June 5) events is mandatory.

Any club interested in carbon-neutral lifestyle practices and composed of five or more members active within Gwanak-gu can apply. However, youth clubs must include one adult representative.

To apply, complete the documents posted on the Gwanak-gu Office website (News → Announcements → Gwanak News) and submit them via email to the person in charge. Final results will be individually notified by the end of March.

The district plans to provide support of 1.5 to 2 million KRW per club after evaluation by a joint public-private expert committee, which will assess the appropriateness of activities and budget allocation.

Meanwhile, since 2022, the district has been progressively promoting projects under the theme of ‘Raising Awareness of the Importance of Climate Change Issues’ through public-private cooperation to create a carbon-neutral city, including ‘Resident Green Leader Training’ and ‘Visiting Carbon Neutral Education.’

In particular, last year, the district implemented the ‘Carbon Neutral RUN! Specialized Resident Education by Neighborhood,’ visiting all 21 neighborhoods to provide education on resident practice plans tailored to local characteristics, reaching over 1,200 residents.

District Mayor Park Jun-hee stated, “The climate crisis can no longer be overcome by the district office alone; it can only be overcome when all residents practice carbon neutrality in their daily lives. We hope that through the Gwanak Green Leader Environmental Club, the culture and foundation for resident-led carbon-neutral practices and activities will gradually expand within the region.”
