Democratic Party Submits Resolution Urging Expulsion of People Power Party Lawmaker Seo Cheon-ho Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Park Seong-jun and Noh Jong-myeon submitted a resolution to expel People Power Party lawmaker Seo Cheon-ho to the National Assembly Secretariat in Yeouido, Seoul on March 4, 2025. 2025.3.4 [Joint Coverage] Yonhap News Agency

Earlier, Lawmaker Seo sparked controversy by taking the podium at an anti-impeachment rally for President Yoon Seok-yeol held at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on March 1st and stating, "We must smash the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit, the National Election Commission, and the Constitutional Court. Let's destroy them."

In the resolution, the Democratic Party pointed out that Seo's remarks "constitute preliminary conspiracy, incitement, propaganda of rebellion, riot, obstruction of official duties, treason, and crimes against the constitutional order under the Criminal Act," and added, "Since the remarks posed a direct threat to public order during the assembly, they also violated the Assembly and Demonstration Act."

They further criticized, "He blatantly advocated physical acts and violent attacks against the Constitutional Court, a state institution, and incited the rampage of far-right forces that could trigger a second Western Seoul District Court riot."

Additionally, the Democratic Party's Legal Committee filed a complaint against Lawmaker Seo with the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters on the same afternoon for the crime of treason propaganda.

The Legal Committee stated the reason for the complaint as follows: "Following the December 3rd rebellion incident under Yoon Seok-yeol, some politicians and far-right figures have been inciting public confusion and conflict with extreme remarks supporting unconstitutional and illegal martial law. Amid this, a ruling party lawmaker's incitement to attack constitutional institutions and major investigative agencies seriously threatens South Korea's democracy and rule of law."

They added, "The accused's remarks go beyond mere political opinion expression and constitute incitement to riot. The danger of such treason propaganda was already revealed by the January 19th riot and intrusion incident at the Seoul Western District Court," urging investigative agencies to conduct a swift investigation and enforce the law strictly.
