Hongseong County Public Health Center Urges Caution Against Infectious Diseases in the New School Term

Strict Adherence to the Five Major Preventive Guidelines Urged

Hongseong County Public Health Center Urges Caution Against Infectious Diseases in the New School Term Five Major Infectious Disease Prevention Rules

The Hongseong County Public Health Center in Chungnam has provided guidelines for preventing major infectious diseases such as chickenpox and pertussis as the new school semester begins, urging strict adherence to these preventive measures.

Common infectious diseases in the spring include chickenpox, mumps, pertussis, and hand-foot-and-mouth disease, with a tendency to increase especially from March when the new semester starts.

These infectious diseases can spread rapidly in crowded spaces through respiratory secretions such as droplets and nasal discharge. Therefore, in case of a confirmed infection, the health center has requested that attendance at schools or daycare centers be suspended during the infectious period of each disease to prevent group outbreaks.

To prevent infection, it is important to follow preventive guidelines such as: practicing proper cough etiquette, making handwashing a habit, not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands, ventilating indoor spaces frequently, and seeking appropriate medical care at a healthcare facility if you have a fever or respiratory symptoms.

Jung Youngrim, the head of the public health center, stated, "When the new semester begins, students in group settings such as schools and kindergartens are more vulnerable to infectious diseases. Those who have not completed their vaccinations must do so, and I urge everyone to strictly follow preventive measures such as handwashing and cough etiquette not only in educational institutions but also at home."
