Visiting Ujeong and Pyeongsan Elementary Schools to Celebrate Students' New Beginnings
Encouraging New Students by Reading a Fairy Tale Aloud at the Entrance Ceremony

Cheon Chang-su, Superintendent of Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education, visited two elementary schools on the first day of the new semester, March 4, to welcome students arriving at school and attend entrance ceremonies to celebrate the students' new beginnings.

On the morning of the same day, Superintendent Cheon visited Ujeong Elementary School in Jung-gu, Ulsan, to greet the students arriving at school.

Seventy new students enrolled at Ujeong Elementary School. This school operates a student self-governance leadership program this year and supports arts education for students, including a one-instrument-per-student program for all grades and violin classes for sixth graders.

Following this, at 9:40 a.m., Superintendent Cheon visited Pyeongsan Elementary School in Jung-gu, Ulsan, to attend the entrance ceremony and congratulate the new students.

At this school, 67 first graders and 57 kindergarteners enrolled. This year, the school will operate a customized arts education leadership program and provide in-depth reading education designed to cultivate students' thinking skills.

During the entrance ceremony, Superintendent Cheon read the fairy tale "It's Okay to Be Wrong" to the students. This book teaches children entering elementary school that "it's okay for classrooms to be different places, and that making mistakes is part of finding the right answers."

Superintendent Cheon said, "Since no one can do everything perfectly from the start, I hope school life will be a time to ask questions, learn, and grow while getting along well with friends. I congratulate you on your enrollment and also express my gratitude to the parents who joined us today."

The Ulsan Office of Education supports students this year to explore their future lives independently as protagonists of their own lives and to develop various competencies.

Under the slogan "The Sound of Reading Fills the School," the office promotes student-centered reading education through a daily 15-minute reading time, school and class-level recitation contests, one reading club per school, and curriculum-linked reading education.
