Daegu City announced on the 4th that it will support 70 million KRW from the city budget to seven local universities selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' '2025 1,000-Won Breakfast Support Project' this year (Kyungpook National University, Keimyung University, Keimyung Culture University, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, Daegu Polytechnic College, Daegu Science College, Daegu National University of Education).

The '1,000-Won Breakfast Support Project' provides breakfast for 1,000 KRW to university students, whose breakfast skipping rate is higher than other age groups (57.2% as of 2023), aiming to reduce the breakfast skipping rate among university students, promote healthy eating habits of having breakfast, and encourage rice consumption.

Following support for 34,500 students at four universities in 2023, the scale has been increasing with 91,900 students at six universities using the service in 2024.

This year, Daegu City plans to prioritize support for 70,000 students by investing 70 million KRW of city funds. The breakfast cost is supported by 2,000 KRW from the government, 1,000 KRW from Daegu City, and 500 KRW to 1,500 KRW from the universities, so students only need to pay 1,000 KRW.
