"All Case-Related Records Sent When Requesting Prosecution," CIO Refutes Allegations
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) has once again denied the allegations of 'warrant dismissal concealment and omission of investigation records' raised during the investigation of President Yoon Seok-yeol on charges of insurrection.
On the 4th, a CIO official stated at a regular briefing, "We believe that all suspicions related to the warrant raised by President Yoon's legal team and political circles were resolved following the prosecution's search and seizure last Friday." He added, "There was no omission of materials when requesting warrants or handing over investigation records," and emphasized, "If the warrant was intended to verify this, it has become clear that it is not true."
Earlier, on the 28th of last month, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office conducted a search and seizure at the CIO office in the Government Gwacheon Complex to secure materials related to the CIO's investigation of the emergency martial law case. This was a follow-up measure after various complaints were filed against the CIO. A CIO official said, "When requesting prosecution, all records related to the case were sent," and regarding the allegations of warrant dismissal concealment claimed by People Power Party lawmakers, he stated, "It is not true. How difficult it is to prove the non-existence of something."
Regarding President Yoon's side's claim that the CIO is not providing a list of investigation records, the official explained, "The originals have already been handed over to the prosecution, and all records are with the court, so there is no need to request them from us."
Meanwhile, concerning the matter of the CIO handing over military and police personnel under investigation for insurrection charges to the prosecution, the official responded, "We are internally reviewing how to handle overlapping or already prosecuted cases and whether to continue the investigation."
