Positive Assessment Despite People Power Party Lawmakers Supporting Anti-Impeachment Rallies
Says, "No One Really Knows Until the Constitutional Court's Decision"
People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo explained on the 4th that his vote in favor of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol last year was "to await the Constitutional Court's judgment." Regarding the impeachment trial currently underway at the Constitutional Court, Ahn, who supported the impeachment motion, also stated, "Until a decision is made, no one really knows."
On the same day, on CBS Radio, Ahn responded to questions about President Yoon's impeachment trial by saying, "I hope that a truly accurate and fair result will come out based on the Constitution and the rule of law," giving a principled answer.

Regarding his vote in favor during the National Assembly's impeachment motion vote, he explained, "I left the judgment to the Constitutional Court." He said, "At the time of the impeachment vote against President Yoon, two provisions of Article 77 of the Constitution were involved. The first was whether this constituted a state of emergency such as rebellion, insurrection, or an equivalent, which was judged not to be the case. The National Assembly could reject the impeachment with the consent of the majority of its members, but before this process was completed, the military was deployed (as it was seen)." However, he added, "Regarding such issues, it is not the role of lawmakers but rather those with more expertise at the Constitutional Court who should thoroughly examine this, set precedents, and make a judgment. Based on this judgment, I supported forwarding the impeachment motion to the Constitutional Court."
He also gave a relatively positive evaluation of People Power Party members participating in rallies opposing the impeachment. Ahn said, "Regarding the Constitutional Court's judgment, no one really knows until the decision is made," and added, "We need to prepare for various possibilities." He continued, "Rather than all party members moving in one direction, if each member chooses the right direction they believe in for the party and focuses on that, I think we can respond to any situation."
