Lower Than Average... Morning Lows of -5 to 4 Degrees

After the Samiljeol holiday, rain and snow are forecasted nationwide on the 4th, the opening day of schools at all levels.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 3rd, rain or snow will begin in the early morning of the 4th in the Gangwon mountain area, northeastern Gyeongbuk mountain area, eastern coast of Gyeongbuk, southern Jeonnam, and Jeju, then expand nationwide by morning and continue until night. However, as of 4:30 PM on the 3rd, most areas have entered a lull in precipitation.

Precipitation is expected to continue until the morning of the 5th in the northeastern Gyeongbuk mountain area, eastern coast of Gyeongsang, and Jeju, and until the evening of the 5th in the Gangwon mountain area and eastern coast. Expected precipitation amounts are 10?40 mm for the Gangwon mountain area, eastern coast, and Jeju; 10?30 mm for the northeastern Gyeongbuk mountain area and eastern coast; 5?30 mm for Gwangju, Jeonnam, Daegu, inland Gyeongbuk, Busan, Gyeongnam, Ulsan, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo; 5?20 mm for inland Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeonbuk; 5?10 mm for southern Gyeonggi; and around 5 mm for Seoul, Incheon, northern Gyeonggi, and the five western islands.

Expected snowfall amounts are 10?30 cm (with a maximum of over 40 cm in the Gangwon mountain area) for the Gangwon mountain area, eastern coast, northeastern Gyeongbuk mountain area, and northern eastern coast; 5?10 cm (with a maximum of over 15 cm in inland Gangwon) for inland Gangwon and northern inland Gyeongbuk; 3?10 cm for Chungbuk; and 3?8 cm for southern Gyeonggi, Daejeon, Sejong, inland Chungnam, Gunwi in Daegu, southwestern inland Gyeongbuk, southern eastern coast of Gyeongbuk, Ulsan, and western inland Gyeongnam.

Snow accumulation of 1?5 cm is expected in Seoul, Incheon, northeastern Gyeonggi, western coastal Chungnam, eastern Jeonbuk, inland central and southern Gyeongbuk (excluding Gunwi in Daegu), central inland Gyeongnam, eastern inland Gyeongnam, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo. Around 1 cm of snow may accumulate in northwestern Gyeonggi, the five western islands, central inland Jeonbuk, and eastern inland Jeonnam.

Since snow is also forecasted in areas that have already received heavy snowfall during the holiday period, such as Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, eastern Gyeonggi, and Chungbuk, preparations should be made to prevent damage. In particular, hourly snowfall of 3?5 cm (over 5 cm in the Gangwon mountain area) is expected in the Gangwon mountain area, eastern coast, and northern Gyeongbuk, while 1?3 cm per hour of wet snow may fall in the rest of Gangwon and Yeongnam regions, as well as southeastern Gyeonggi and Chungcheong areas.

On the 4th, morning low temperatures are forecasted to range from -5°C to 4°C, and daytime highs from 2°C to 8°C, slightly lower than average temperatures.

Strong winds are also expected. Nationwide, gusts of 55?70 km/h (70?90 km/h in mountainous areas) will blow, making it chilly. Rough seas will continue for the time being.

Swells will affect the Jeju coast, southern sea islands, southern coast of Gyeongnam, and eastern coast for the time being. Especially, a meteorological tsunami may occur near Jeju and Jeonnam coasts on the evening of the 3rd and morning of the 4th due to a low-pressure system passing near Jeju waters, so caution is advised.
