Full-scale Promotion of Public Work and Community Job Projects
1.2 Billion KRW Invested in the First Half of the Year
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province is actively promoting a public job project to alleviate unemployment among vulnerable groups and young and middle-aged adults.
The city announced on the 3rd that it will invest a total of 1.2 billion KRW in public work and community job projects in the first half of this year to hire 168 people. The project period will run for about four months from the 4th to June 30.
This year's project budget increased by 200 million KRW compared to last year, creating about 30 additional jobs. Through this, the city plans to ease unemployment issues and provide practical employment opportunities to job seekers.
A total of 587 people applied for this recruitment, recording a competition rate of 3.5 to 1. The city comprehensively considered household income, assets, number of dependents, and other factors to select the final 168 candidates. The selected workers will work at 63 workplaces including the Gumi City Hall main office, business offices, and eup, myeon, and dong districts.
Working hours are applied differently according to age. Those aged 65 and over will work 15 hours per week, those under 65 will work 30 hours per week, and the youth group (34 years old and under) will work 40 hours per week. The hourly wage is 10,030 KRW, and the main tasks include administrative assistance, environmental cleanup, and village maintenance.
The city expects this project to help stabilize the livelihoods of low-income groups and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
In particular, to facilitate smooth transition of participants to private sector jobs, the city plans to provide various employment support programs linked with job search support services, vocational training, and the National Employment Support System.
Meanwhile, the city operates public job projects twice a year in the first and second halves, and the second half project is scheduled to be conducted from September to December after recruitment in July to August.
Kim Jang-ho, mayor of Gumi City, said, "We hope this public job project will be of practical help to vulnerable groups and young people," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create jobs and revitalize the economy."
