Ministry of Health and Welfare and Korea Health Promotion Institute
Launch Nationwide Obesity Prevention Campaign
Encouraging 150,000 Steps with "WalkOn" App
The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Health Promotion Institute announced on the 3rd that they will promote a nationwide obesity prevention campaign to raise awareness of the importance of obesity prevention and encourage the formation of healthy lifestyle habits in commemoration of 'Obesity Prevention Day' on the 4th.
This campaign is themed around the obesity prevention slogan, "Lightly, walk (in daily life), drink (water), and reduce (sodium, sugar, fat)," and anyone can easily participate in daily life using the mobile walking application (app) "WalkOn."
The campaign aims for each participant to walk a total of more than 150,000 steps over one month until the 3rd of next month, and participation can be made by certifying healthy habits such as drinking water and practicing a low-sodium, low-sugar, and low-fat diet. Among those who achieve the goal, about 300 people will be selected by lottery to receive prizes, and the region (city, county, district) with the highest achievement rate will be supported in creating an environment for practicing healthy living within the area. During the campaign period, various information related to obesity prevention, such as understanding healthy body weight and analyzing community obesity rates, will also be provided.
To enhance the campaign's effectiveness, an online and offline joint campaign with local governments nationwide will be operated until September 30. Each local government is preparing various activities to spread obesity prevention messages, such as awareness improvement activities using the obesity prevention slogan and quiz events targeting local residents.
Kim Heon-ju, president of the Korea Health Promotion Institute, said, "I hope this campaign will serve as an opportunity to further increase public interest in practicing healthy lifestyles for obesity prevention," and added, "We will support local governments to smoothly carry out the campaign and promote it to more local residents."
