Gyeonggi Province Supports 'Injury Insurance' for Military Service Gyeonggi Youth

Gyeonggi Province will continue to promote its free accident insurance enrollment support program this year, which provides surgery fees, hospitalization daily allowances, and more for young people serving in the military within the province.

Launched in 2018 as the first of its kind in a metropolitan area, the 'Military Service Gyeonggi Youth Accident Insurance' is a system where Gyeonggi Province supports free enrollment in accident insurance to alleviate difficulties faced by young service members and their families in case of accidents during military service.

The support targets active-duty soldiers, full-time reservists, conscripted police officers, conscripted firefighters, and coast guards registered as residents in Gyeonggi Province. Professional soldiers and social service agents are excluded. Eligible individuals are automatically enrolled upon starting their military service without any separate enrollment procedures.

The insurance covers death, injury, illness, and accidents occurring during military service, including accidents during training camps, leave, and outings.

The main coverage includes ▲ 50 million KRW for death or permanent disability due to injury ▲ 50 million KRW for death or permanent disability due to illness ▲ 200,000 KRW for surgery fees ▲ 40,000 KRW per day for hospitalization (up to 180 days), among others.

An additional 20 million KRW is paid in cases of death or permanent disability caused by explosions, fires, or collapses, providing coverage up to a maximum of 70 million KRW.

Through the military service accident insurance enrollment support program, Gyeonggi Province has paid a total of 9.8 billion KRW in insurance claims as of the end of February. In a satisfaction survey conducted in the second half of last year, 84% expressed satisfaction with the program, 98% supported its continuation, and 95% agreed with its nationwide expansion.
