Jeollanam-do will conduct a "Thaw Season Joint Safety Inspection" for three weeks from the 4th to the 21st to ensure safety at agricultural production infrastructure and construction sites during the thawing period.
The main inspection targets are facilities with a safety grade of D, Type 1 agricultural production infrastructure, sites under restoration from typhoon and heavy rain damage in 2024, and large construction sites with a total project cost of 10 billion KRW or more.
Type 1 facilities include reservoirs with a total storage capacity of 300,000 cubic meters or more, pumping stations with 2,000 horsepower or more, and nationally managed seawalls.
Jeollanam-do, city and county governments, and Korea Rural Community Corporation will jointly form five teams with a total of 33 inspectors to check for structural cracks, subsidence, slope collapses, and the operational status of electrical and mechanical facilities.
They will also check the progress of ongoing construction projects, compliance with various design standards, and the implementation of safety measures.
Separately, the current facility managers?city and county governments and Korea Rural Community Corporation?are also conducting their own inspections for 45 days until April 2.
The inspection targets include 3,207 reservoirs, 1,058 seawalls, 1,284 pumping stations?totaling 5,549 agricultural production infrastructure facilities?as well as 50 drainage improvement sites, 49 seawall construction sites, and 211 water facility repair sites, totaling 414 construction sites.
In March last year, Jeollanam-do immediately addressed 59 issues such as abandoned debris in reservoirs and inadequate construction safety management during a joint inspection of 66 facilities, and established and implemented repair plans for seven cases such as embankment leakage.
This year as well, minor issues will be addressed immediately, and for serious defects, emergency safety measures will be taken and repair and reinforcement plans will be established to complete maintenance before the rainy season.
Kim Hyunmi, Director of Agricultural Policy at Jeollanam-do, said, "During the thawing season, the ground becomes weaker and the risk of facility collapse increases, so we will conduct thorough inspections to prevent damage to lives and property."
