Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 3rd that the communication space for single-person households, ‘Singgeulbeonggeul Sarangbang Dongdaemun-gu Branch No. 1,’ opened on the 28th of last month.
The Sarangbang, located on the 2nd floor of the new building of Gyeongdong Market, is the 15th ‘Singgeulbeonggeul Sarangbang’ established in Seoul, and its name is ‘Ieummaru,’ meaning ‘a place that connects people.’
The Dongdaemun-gu Welfare Policy Division stated, “KD Market Co., Ltd., which sympathized with the purpose of the Sarangbang project, cooperated by providing the unused space in the new building of Gyeongdong Market free of charge, enabling us to establish the Dongdaemun-gu Sarangbang more smoothly.”
The district was selected in last year’s Seoul city public contest and received 40 million KRW in city funds, supplemented by 30 million KRW from the district’s supplementary budget, to prepare a communication space for single-person households of approximately 51.84㎡ (15 pyeong) equipped with ▲group space ▲education space ▲rest area.
The ‘Dongdaemun-gu Family Center,’ which operates the Sarangbang as the Dongdaemun-gu Single-Person Household Support Center, plans to utilize the geographical characteristics of the Sarangbang located in Gyeongdong Market to support single-person household residents in forming healthy social networks through ▲traditional market tours ▲seasonal food shopping ▲simple meal preparation, among other activities.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I hope residents recognize ‘Ieummaru’ as a comfortable resting place and an enjoyable space to meet new friends and use it frequently.”
Dongdaemun-gu Sarangbang ‘Ieummaru’ operates from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and legal holidays.
