“Condemning Forced Traffic Sacrifice Without Compensation for Security Sacrifice”
Resolution Announced
Urging Additional Dongducheon Entrance and Exit Ramp at Deokjeong Interchange in the Paju~Yangju·Pocheon Section
Gyeonggi Province: “Not Possible Due to Lack of Economic Feasibility in Road Corporation’s Preliminary Study”
The Dongducheon City Council of Gyeonggi Province (Chairman Kim Seung-ho) urged the central government to additionally install an entrance and exit ramp for Dongducheon in the Pocheon direction at the Deokjeong Interchange within the Paju~Yangju·Pocheon section of the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway.
Dongducheon City Council urged the central government on the 28th of last month to additionally install an entrance and exit ramp for Dongducheon in the Pocheon direction at the Deokjeong Interchange within the Paju~Yangju·Pocheon section of the Seoul Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway. According to the Dongducheon City Council on the 2nd, the council unanimously adopted the "Resolution Urging the Installation of an Interchange in the Seoul Direction on the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway," which was proposed by Councilor Kim Seung-ho as the representative on the 28th of last month.
On that day, the Dongducheon City Council announced the "Resolution Urging the Installation of an Interchange in the Seoul Direction on the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway," proposed by Councilor Kim Seung-ho (People Power Party, District A) as the representative and unanimously adopted by all seven council members.
In the resolution, the Dongducheon City Council expressed frustration, stating, "There is no interchange for entering Dongducheon towards Seoul and Pocheon on the newly opened Paju~Yangju section of the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Expressway. Citizens who want to use the new road have no choice but to take a long detour, and the detour section is a habitual traffic congestion area."
Furthermore, the Dongducheon City Council condemned, saying, "Half of the city's land was taken by the U.S. military base, blocking any development and even access. Due to the local economy collapsing from the reduction of U.S. troops, citizens commuting to Seoul to make a living are facing inconveniences that are being ignored. Despite Dongducheon City proposing the installation of an interchange for nearly 10 years throughout the construction of the relevant section, the government has ignored it."
They added, "The government is like a vampire that only sucks the essence of Dongducheon's security sacrifices without paying any attention to Dongducheon's inconveniences and appeals," and demanded, "The government must immediately install an interchange in the Seoul direction at the Dongducheon entrance and exit area of the relevant section."
Meanwhile, before the opening of the relevant road section in November last year, Dongducheon City also requested Gyeonggi Province to additionally install an entrance and exit ramp for the Pocheon direction at the Deokjeong Interchange and to support construction costs with provincial funds considering Dongducheon's poor financial situation. However, Gyeonggi Province reportedly responded, "We sympathize with Dongducheon's position, but according to the preliminary feasibility study by the Road Corporation, economic feasibility has not been secured, so it is not possible."
