Local media including the British daily The Telegraph reported on February 28 (local time) that Tania Gomez (32), a Swedish influencer, was recently arrested on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain.

Gomez is accused of trafficking cocaine and laundering money in Sweden. She is known to have held a top position in a European criminal organization.

She worked as the head of an animal rescue organization that gave abandoned dogs a new life. Additionally, she gained popularity on Instagram with many followers due to her beautiful appearance. She worked as the head of an animal rescue organization that gave abandoned dogs a new life.

Her true identity was revealed around May 2020. At that time, Swedish police raided Gomez’s office located in central Stockholm on charges of purchasing and selling 10 kg of cocaine and found cash amounting to 1 million euros (approximately 1.5 billion KRW).

The police judged that Gomez had used the animal rescue organization as a front for drug trafficking and money laundering. As the investigation began, Gomez fled, and Europol placed her on the list of top 50 wanted fugitives in 2023.

According to reports, Gomez was finally arrested on the 7th after living undercover in a small village in Lanzarote, located in the province of Las Palmas, Spain. Local media stated, "Gomez is suspected not only of drug trafficking but also of money laundering and other various crimes related to the criminal organization," adding, "The 10 accomplices arrested with her have already been sentenced to long prison terms and are serving their sentences." If she is ultimately convicted in Sweden, she is expected to face up to 14 years in prison.
