Jeonbuk Wins 49 Votes, Seoul 11 Votes
at the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee General Assembly
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon congratulated Jeollabuk-do, which was selected as the domestic candidate city for hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics. Seoul competed with Jeonbuk based on its experience in hosting the Olympics, but Jeonbuk created an upset by emphasizing 'national balanced development.'
On the 28th, Mayor Oh stated through social media (SNS), "I sincerely congratulate Jeonbuk on being selected as the domestic candidate city for the Summer Olympics," and added, "Seoul will do its best to support Jeonbuk through the IOC-related contact channels and networks that have been built so far so that Jeonbuk can be confirmed as the host city for the 2036 Olympics by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)."

He also said, "If Jeonbuk hosts the Summer Olympics as the second time in Korean history following the Seoul Olympics, it will be a valuable opportunity to further elevate our national prestige." Furthermore, he added, "Hosting the Olympics outside the metropolitan area will be an important opportunity for balanced national land development."
On the same day, Jeonbuk won 49 out of 61 votes in the '2036 Olympic Domestic Candidate City Selection Vote' held at the Korea Sports Council's 2025 Regular General Assembly at Olympic Parktel in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, defeating Seoul, which received 11 votes. There was one invalid vote.
