U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would impose an additional 10% tariff on China, prompting China to warn of retaliatory measures.
On the 28th (local time), according to China's Jiemian News, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated regarding President Trump's tariff threat, "If the United States insists on its course of action, China will take all necessary countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests."
The spokesperson added, "China is closely monitoring the situation and has repeatedly stated that unilateral tariffs violate World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and undermine the multilateral trading system," emphasizing, "China firmly opposes this."

Regarding the fentanyl issue cited by President Trump as justification for the tariffs, China claimed, "China is one of the countries with the strictest and most thoroughly enforced drug control policies in the world."
Earlier, on the 27th, President Trump announced that starting from the 4th of next month, an additional 10% tariff would be imposed on China.
Until earlier this year, Chinese products exported to the U.S. were subject to an average tariff rate of about 25%. Following the imposition of a 10% general tariff on the 4th, Trump announced an additional 10% tariff. He stipulated that this would remain in place until the fentanyl issue entering the U.S. is resolved or significantly improved.
