60s Die in Traffic Accident at Parking Lot of Major Hospital in Seoul Yonhap News

A woman in her 60s walking through the parking lot of a large hospital in Seoul was fatally crushed by another vehicle.

According to the Seocho Police Station in Seoul on the 27th, at around 7:04 a.m. on the 18th, a woman in her 60s, identified as Ms. A, was crushed by a vehicle driven by a woman in her 40s, Ms. B, in the parking lot of a large hospital in Seocho-gu. Ms. A was walking to a funeral hall, and Ms. B was reportedly a nurse at the hospital.

At the time, Ms. A collided with Ms. B’s vehicle from behind, but Ms. B did not realize the accident had occurred. After hearing shouts from nearby witnesses, Ms. B got out of the car, and during the process of reversing the vehicle, Ms. A was crushed once again. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed on Ms. A, who was in cardiac arrest. She was then transported to the emergency room but suffered cardiac arrest again and passed away.

The bereaved family raised concerns immediately after the accident regarding inadequate response by Ms. A, delays in treatment at the scene and in the emergency room, and the lack of safety facilities in the hospital parking lot. They are reportedly planning to file a complaint against the hospital for violating the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The police have booked Ms. B without detention on charges of causing death by negligence under the Special Act on the Treatment of Traffic Accidents and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
