Lead Actor for "Embracing the Sword in Sorrow"
The Gyeongnam Miryang Culture and Tourism Foundation will hold an open audition to select the entire cast for the Miryanggang Odyssey performance "Embracing the Sword in Sorrow," the main program of the 67th Miryang Arirang Festival, which will be held for four days starting May 22.
The audition will select ensemble members, dancers (including acrobats, b-boys, etc.), and child actors separately. After the first round of document screening, successful candidates will proceed to the second round, where ensemble singing and choreography will be evaluated to select the final cast.
Anyone can apply for the audition regardless of gender or age. The first round of document submission is open until March 7 through the Miryang Culture and Tourism Foundation website and the OTR audition platform.
Miryanggang Odyssey is the flagship program of the Miryang Arirang Festival and is the longest-running live outdoor performance in Korea, continuing for 10 years.
The upcoming "Embracing the Sword in Sorrow" is based on the novel of the same name written by Lee Sang-hoon, a writer from Miryang, which depicts the life of the martyr Sa Myung Dae-sa, and is set against the backdrop of the national treasure Yeongnamru Pavilion and the Miryang River.
Led by artistic director Joy Kim, the 2025 Miryanggang Odyssey "Embracing the Sword in Sorrow," which combines historical figures' stories with the latest cultural and artistic technologies into a convergent live outdoor multimedia show, is preparing to leap beyond Miryang into a global content platform.
