Customized Programs for Students with Migrant Backgrounds
and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities
Gwangju Songjeong Dagachi Cultural Library will provide reading support for students with migrant backgrounds and individuals with intellectual disabilities.
According to the Gwangju Office of Education on the 28th, the library will operate customized programs from March to December for those who have difficulty visiting the library.
Last year, students with migration backgrounds received Korean language education through reading activities to adapt to Korean culture at the Gwangju Songjeong Dagachi Cultural Library. Provided by Gwangju Office of Education
This project aims to bridge educational gaps and support adaptation to the local community. Four institutions will participate: Koryoin Village Youth Culture Center, Barambebi Kumteo Public Regional Child Center, Gwangju Migrant Women Support Center, and Dasom Disabled Daycare Center.
The library will dispatch professional instructors to each institution. The programs will be held 39 to 50 times per institution, totaling 228 sessions. The "Dagachi Classroom" for students with migrant backgrounds will offer basic Korean language education and help with adapting to school life. The "Hopeful Classroom" for individuals with intellectual disabilities will conduct play activities based on reading.
Kang Seongdo, the director of the library, said, "We hope that marginalized groups will have easier access to reading activities," and added, "We will continue to discover projects in collaboration with the local community."
