While a national declaration opposing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol has been announced at Chonnam National University, the birthplace of the May 18 Democratization Movement, a counter-rally supporting impeachment was held in response.
On the 27th, nine organizations from Chonnam National University, including the General Student Council and the university labor union, held a press conference in front of the sports center near the university's back gate in Buk-gu, Gwangju, urging, "Forces defending insurrection must stop tarnishing Gwangju and Chonnam National University."
They stated, "With the verdict for President Yoon's impeachment imminent, a national university student rally opposing impeachment is scheduled for March 1," and condemned, "On the eve of the March 1st Movement anniversary, insurrectionist forces are attempting to exploit the bloodshed of our ancestors' independence struggle as a tool to undermine democracy."
They continued, "If you look at the university declarations, the list of participants is not even disclosed, and fewer than ten students are being put forward while far-right external forces use broadcast vehicles to conduct these events violently. In this situation, even at Chonnam National University, some students are attempting to issue a declaration urging an investigation into election fraud, thus trying to misuse Chonnam National University, the birthplace of the May 18 Uprising."
They added, "Unlike other universities' 'declarations against impeachment,' this one is labeled as a 'call for investigation into election fraud,' but in reality, it is nothing but anti-constitutional, anti-democratic sophistry. These are just desperate words from those who want to justify martial law," and pointed out, "Forces that portray the call for Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment as an ideological conflict between left and right should not be allowed to set foot in Chonnam National University."

'Chonnam National University Emergency Action,' a group of about 20 students, also held a press conference, stating, "Even in the final Constitutional Court hearing, President Yoon did not offer a single word of apology regarding martial law or the current situation," and added, "He is inciting riots and rallying far-right supporters, desperately asking them to protect him, all while questioning how there could be a two-hour martial law."
The group argued, "Across universities nationwide, far-right YouTubers and students from each campus are joining forces to issue declarations opposing impeachment and provoking physical clashes," and added, "We cannot stand by as forces defending insurrection defile the spirit of May 18 at Chonnam National University, the birthplace of the democratization movement."
On this day, in front of the main gate of Chonnam National University, a YouTuber opposing President Yoon's impeachment and some students from the university held a rally calling for an 'investigation into election fraud.' Some Chonnam National University students are also scheduled to issue a declaration urging an investigation into election fraud at 5 p.m.
