Yonhap News

On the afternoon of the 27th, the National Assembly held a plenary session and put the Myeong Taegyun Special Prosecutor Act to a vote, with 182 votes in favor, 91 against, and 1 abstention out of 274 members present, passing the bill. Among the People Power Party, Representative Kim Sang-wook cast a vote in favor.

The People Power Party had previously expressed opposition to the Special Prosecutor Act as the party's official stance.

The core content of the Myeong Taegyun Special Prosecutor Act includes politicians suspected of being involved with President Yoon Seok-yeol, First Lady Kim Geon-hee, and Myeong Taegyun as subjects of investigation.

Regarding the recommendation of the special prosecutor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court recommends two candidates, from whom the President appoints one; if the President does not appoint anyone, the eldest candidate among them is automatically appointed.

Previously, the People Power Party decided that if the opposition party forcibly proceeded with the passage of the Myeong Taegyun Special Prosecutor Act alone, they would request Choi Sang-mok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, to exercise the right to request reconsideration (veto power).
