Gapcheon Block 4 and Wolpyeong Youth Housing to Break Ground in the First Half of Next Year

Daejeon City to Actively Promote Youth Housing in Nangwol, Gapcheon 4 Block, Wolpyeong, and More Perspective view of Nangwol Youth Housing / Daejeon City

Daejeon City announced that it will actively promote youth housing projects in Nangwol, Gapcheon Block 4, Wolpyeong, and the original downtown area to alleviate housing insecurity for young people and newlyweds.

The Nangwol Youth Housing project is currently 71% complete and aims to be finished by May. Located in Nangwol-dong, Dong-gu, this housing complex will consist of 162 units, offering practical living spaces and rental fees lower than market rates.

The Gapcheon Block 4 Youth Housing is the nation’s first “regionally proposed public rental housing” project, led by Daejeon Urban Corporation in consultation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Utilizing land owned by the local corporation, this project will provide 1,195 public-supported private rental units for young people and newlyweds. At least 80% of these units will be allocated to youth and newlyweds. The project will offer rents below market rates, with construction starting in the first half of 2026 and completion targeted for 2028.

The Wolpyeong Youth Housing project was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “job-linked support housing” program and will be fully launched this year. This project will provide customized housing for young people preparing for employment or starting businesses, as well as for small and medium-sized enterprise workers. Specialized facilities such as an employment support lounge and shared offices will be included. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion aimed for 2029.

For the original downtown youth housing project, the city is reviewing sites in areas with convenient transportation near subway stations, and land acquisition procedures are currently underway. If economic feasibility is confirmed during the review, the city plans to complete the acquisition by the end of this year and move forward with the project in earnest.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, “We will prioritize housing stability for young people and newlyweds, and in 2025, we will continue to successfully lead major youth housing projects to actively support young people in planning their futures in a stable environment.”
