Gumi City Launches 'Smart Education Room'
to Bridge Learning Gaps Among Children

Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province has become the first in the province to digitalize the educational environment of local children's centers, aiming to bridge the learning gap among children.

Gumi, First Smart Regional Children's Center in Gyeongbuk Established... Expansion of Digital Learning Support Children in Gumi City are exercising using Nintendo. The city plans to operate various programs to enhance children's learning engagement and improve the quality of care services.

On the 27th, the city held an opening ceremony for the 'Local Children's Center Smart Education Room' at the Haneul Local Children's Center and officially began its operation.


This project was initiated after being selected in the Ministry of Science and ICT's '2024 Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project' competition, with a total investment of 650 million KRW.


The opening ceremony was attended by Kim Hoseop, Deputy Mayor of Gumi City; Jang Mikyung, Chairperson of the Planning and Administration Committee of Gumi City Council; Nam Myungsil, Chairperson of the Local Children's Center Association and heads of base centers, while about 500 children from local children's centers participated online.


Through this project, the city installed video education equipment and practical auxiliary devices in 43 local children's centers within the jurisdiction. This allows instructors to communicate with children in real time and provide experiential education. In particular, an environment for real-time sharing of video experiential education has been established, enabling monitoring of each child's practical process and providing detailed guidance.


Various programs such as play math, webtoon drawing, K-POP dance, and magic shows will also be operated to increase children's learning engagement and improve the quality of care services.


In addition to improving the educational environment, smart devices for children's health and safety were also distributed.

The city installed ▲digital height meters (43 units) ▲body composition analyzers (43 units) ▲smart exercise equipment (95 units) ▲IoT fire detectors (59 units) to support health management and enable quick evacuation in case of emergencies such as fires.


Kim Hoseop, Deputy Mayor of Gumi City, stated, “We will continuously support children to learn in a safer and optimal environment,” and added, “We will actively promote various policies to eliminate educational disparities for future generations.”
