Jeon Han-gil Holds Press Conference at National Assembly Arranged by Yoon Sang-hyun
"The Only Way for the People and Constitutional Court to Survive Is Dismissal of Impeachment"
"If Impeachment Is Accepted, the People Will Not Remain Passive"
Jeon Han-gil, a Korean history instructor and public official who actively voices opposition during the impeachment phase of President Yoon Suk-yeol, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 26th, urging the dismissal of President Yoon's impeachment. The press conference was arranged by Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, and was attended by Pastor Son Hyun-bo of Segyero Church and Pastor Kim Jin-hong of Dure Church, along with Mr. Jeon.
Mr. Jeon stated, "The only way for the people to live and for the Constitutional Court justices to survive is the dismissal of the impeachment," adding, "If the Constitutional Court accepts President Yoon's impeachment and removes him from office, borrowing Professor Heo Young's expression, the Constitutional Court will be reduced to dust and disappear." Heo Young, a distinguished professor at Kyung Hee University Law School, argued in an interview on the 13th that "If the Constitutional Court removes the president without giving sufficient opportunity for defense, it could completely crumble and vanish."
When asked about the meaning of the 'Constitutional Court turning to dust,' Mr. Jeon explained, "It can be interpreted not as demolishing a building but as losing its very reason for existence," emphasizing, "I am absolutely against violence." Previously, he had stated, "If the Constitutional Court ultimately accepts the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, the people will sweep away the Constitutional Court," and he is currently under investigation by a civic group for alleged incitement of rebellion.
However, referring to former President Moon Jae-in's remark in the past when asked, "What if the Constitutional Court decides to dismiss the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye?"?to which he replied, "The only option left is revolution"?Mr. Jeon said, "If the Constitutional Court accepts the impeachment, the entire nation will not remain passive." He asserted, "The spirit of the April 19 Revolution is enshrined in our Constitution," calling it "a legitimate right of the people under the Constitution."
Mr. Jeon warned, "If the impeachment is accepted, the Constitutional Court justices will become 'the second Eulsa Five Traitors,'" adding, "Through martial law, I have come to realize that many Democratic Party affiliates have infiltrated judicial institutions such as the Our Law Research Association, the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office, and the Constitutional Court." Furthermore, he emphasized, "The president's approval rating is close to 50%. If the Constitutional Court dares to ignore the people and accept the impeachment, the people will never forgive it."
