Ukraine's Attempt to Join NATO Provoked the War
Hints at Imposing Tariffs on Imported Automobiles

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on the 26th (local time) that the United States will not participate in Ukraine's security guarantees, a key element in negotiations to end the Ukraine war, and will leave it to Europe. He also announced that the 25% tariff planned to be imposed on the European Union (EU) will be imposed soon.

During the first cabinet meeting of his second term at the White House that day, President Trump responded to reporters' related questions by saying, "I will not provide (security guarantees) to Ukraine," adding, "We will let Europe do that."

Regarding Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), President Trump dismissed the possibility by saying, "Forget about it," and added, "I probably think that is the reason everything started." This echoed Russian President Vladimir Putin's view that Ukraine's attempt to join NATO provoked Russia's invasion.

He further added that he believes President Putin should make concessions in negotiations to end the war he started in Ukraine.

President Trump also announced his intention to impose a 25% tariff on the EU soon. He said he has decided to impose tariffs on the EU and will announce it "very soon," specifying that the tariff rate will be 25%. He added, "Generally, a 25% tariff will be imposed on all products, including automobiles." Additionally, he stated that new tariffs on Mexico and Canada, which are currently deferred, will be imposed starting April 2. This effectively delays the enforcement date by one month.

When asked whether he would prevent China from forcibly occupying Taiwan, President Trump said, "I will never mention it," explaining, "Because I do not want to put myself in that position (a defense commitment to Taiwan)."

President Trump reiterated his wish for Canada to become the 51st state of the United States, claiming that Canada depends on the U.S. He said, "If they had to pay their way, they would not exist."
