Time at Changgyeonggung Conveyed by 'Light'... Permanent Exhibition of 'Mulbit Yeonhwa'

Nighttime Viewing Program Around Chundangji
Conveying the Palace's Meaning Across Time and Space

The Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Headquarters and the National Heritage Promotion Agency announced on the 27th that they will operate 'Mulbit Yeonhwa' at Changgyeonggung Palace from the 7th of next month until December 31st. This is a nighttime viewing program using media art that was temporarily introduced at last year's Royal Culture Festival. It has been expanded into a permanent program this year and will be held every evening at 7 PM.

By participating in Mulbit Yeonhwa, visitors can freely walk around the Chundangji area and enjoy media art that combines the natural scenery of Changgyeonggung, light, and advanced video technology. Each video presents the value of the palace by showing different cultures and times?such as the Joseon royal palace era, past times, and modern times?alongside water-like light reflected on the path. The waterway, embodying the king’s heart who pursued righteous governance and cared for the people, transcends time and space through light, adding meaning to Changgyeonggung as a space of harmony and communication today.

The most notable section is Daechundangji, where 'From Honghwa to Chundang,' depicting the peaceful era of Joseon and the king’s love for his people, and 'Changgyeonggung Mulbit Yeonhwa,' which reinterprets the palace’s dancheong (traditional multicolored paintwork) and patterns, are displayed. Utilizing the spatial characteristics of being above water and the natural environment, it creates a scene where Changgyeonggung blooms brilliantly.

At Sochundangji, the memories and emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure embedded in Changgyeonggung are shown through the movement of light reflected on the water. Anyone entering Changgyeonggung can view the program free of charge without a reservation.
