Dungi Finds a New Family
The pet dog 'Dungi,' who lost its owner in the 12·29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster, has found a new family.
The dog Doongi, who lost its owner in the December 29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster, has been adopted by a new family. Animal Rights Action Kara.
On the 26th, Animal Rights Action Kara announced that Dungi, the pet dog of the couple who were victims of the disaster and lived in Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, was adopted by Choi Sun-young (48) in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Dungi, who is 7 years old this year, lost its owner in the 12·29 Jeju Air passenger plane disaster. The victim couple is known to have raised Dungi since it was a puppy when they returned to the countryside. The couple also shared photos of Dungi on social media (SNS), sharing the dog's growth process.
After the couple's death, Dungi was left alone at home. Although the bereaved family members took care of Dungi by commuting daily between Muan International Airport and Jangseong-gun during the funeral period, its future was uncertain due to the loss of its guardian. Upon hearing this, Jangseong County Office and Kara supported Dungi's adoption into a new home.
Dungi is reported to be adapting well to the new environment.
In the adoption post, Kara stated, "Pets of bereaved families often receive less social attention and are sometimes neglected," emphasizing, "Through this case, we strongly feel the need for local government-level support for pets in disaster and crisis situations."
They added, "Pets are also family members," and said, "We must not forget their wounds and pain amid disasters. From now on, everyone's attention and effort are needed to ensure pets are not marginalized in similar situations."
Meanwhile, another pet dog who lost its family in the Jeju Air disaster, 'Pudding' (estimated 2 years old), is also reported to have recently found a new home. Pudding lost nine family members in the Jeju Air disaster. After the disaster, Pudding was spotted wandering in a village in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, causing concern. Later, it was rescued by the animal rights organization Care and was adopted by a new family about a month later.
