Exploring Ways to Strengthen Global Science and Technology Cooperation
UNIST Hosts APEC PPSTI Delegation to Expand Research Networks in the Asia-Pacific Region

The delegations of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Partnership (PPSTI) visited UNIST (President Jongrae Park) at 2 p.m. on the 26th.


This visit was an opportunity to explore expanding UNIST's research capabilities to the Asia-Pacific region.

APEC PPSTI is a working-level consultative body that promotes the development of science and technology in the Asia-Pacific region and sets directions for cooperation among member countries. The PPSTI delegation experienced UNIST's research achievements and innovation cases firsthand.


Seongcheol Bae, Vice President for Academic Affairs, said in his welcoming remarks, "We hope UNIST will lead research in fields such as AI, renewable energy, and future mobility together with APEC."


Rahima Kandahari, Chair of APEC PPSTI, positively evaluated UNIST's global academic environment and industrial cooperation potential, expressing expectations for building partnerships.


At the event, UNIST graduate students from APEC member countries set up promotional booths to share their research achievements.


Following this, Professor Hangwon Lim of the Graduate School of Carbon Neutrality introduced carbon capture and utilization technologies, key technologies for decarbonization.


Professor Hyemin Ahn of the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence presented cases of developing artificial vocalization and articulation organs for human voice restoration, and Professor Sanghoon Kang of the Department of Mechanical Engineering presented methods combining robots and AI to measure spasticity in stroke patients and enhance treatment effects.


Afterwards, attendees toured advanced research facilities such as the UNIST Research Support Headquarters (UCRF) and the Seawater Resource Center, examining various research projects.


Vice President Seongcheol Bae said, "This cooperation will make an important contribution to the advancement of global science and technology," adding, "UNIST will further strengthen its research network in the Asia-Pacific region."
