All Cash Recovered, No Injuries Reported
A man in his 30s who threatened an employee with a weapon at a financial institution in Daegu and stole 40 million won was arrested by the police.
On the 26th, the Daegu Jungbu Police Station announced that they have arrested and are investigating a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
A is accused of taking out a pre-prepared weapon from his coat and threatening a male employee at a financial institution in Jung-gu, Daegu, around 3:25 p.m. the previous day while consulting about a deposit product, then stealing 40 million won in cash and fleeing.
At the time, A was wearing a mask and a hat, and he threatened the employee to bring cash from the safe before putting the money into a bag. There were no security guards or other customers in the financial institution at the time, except for one female employee.
Police who responded to the report analyzed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and caught A hiding in a nearby building within about an hour. It is reported that there was no significant resistance during the arrest. All the cash was recovered, and no one was injured.
According to the police investigation, A planned the crime in advance by targeting a small financial institution with few passersby. After the crime, to evade police pursuit, he left the financial institution, took off his coat, and covered the cash bag with cloth.
The police believe that A, who has no clear occupation, committed the crime to repay debts such as loans.
The police plan to request an arrest warrant for A.
