Gwangju Research Institute held a National Assembly forum on the theme of "Gwangju Model: An Inclusive Growth City Opening Korea's Growth Plate" at the 2nd Small Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building on the 26th.
This forum was organized to seek a sustainable inclusive growth city model based on the basic society, a new growth model for Korea, in order to address the issues of inequality and regional disparity facing the nation.
In particular, the forum aimed to understand the concept of a basic society and presented the "Gwangju Model of Inclusive Growth City" as an indicator of a new growth model. As Gwangju is presenting a new paradigm as a city of democracy, human rights, and solidarity, the forum was intended to discuss the value of inclusive growth for Korea's sustainable growth and balanced development.
The forum, co-hosted by Gwangju Research Institute, Institute for Democracy, and Representative Jeon Jinsook, was attended by Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijung, Representatives Nam Insun, Park Jumin, Seo Youngseok, Yang Bunam, Jeon Jinsook, Gwangju Research Institute President Choi Chiguk, and Institute for Democracy President Lee Hanju, among others.
Lee Hanju, President of the Institute for Democracy, delivered the keynote presentation on "The Great Transformation of Korea and the Basic Society," while Min Hyunjung, Head of the Inclusive City Research Office at Gwangju Research Institute, gave a presentation on "The Design and Proposal of the Gwangju Model of Inclusive Growth City."
Lee Hanju, President of the Institute for Democracy, emphasized, "Korean society, facing a great transformation, must overcome various challenges through the core values of the basic society and an endogenous growth model," highlighting the need for a new future growth path for the country.
Director Min Hyunjung stressed, "The inclusive resources and urban cases built by Gwangju have become a model of basic society that combines technological and social innovation as a growth engine, and also serve as a model for an inclusive growth city."
During the discussion session, Choi Chiguk, President of Gwangju Research Institute, served as moderator for the comprehensive discussion. Kim Hyunsung, CEO of Gwangju Economic Promotion and Win-Win Job Foundation, Kim Junghoon, Senior Research Fellow at Gyeonggi Research Institute, and Park Kyungchul, Research Fellow at Chungnam Research Institute, participated in an in-depth discussion on the effectiveness and potential for expansion of the Gwangju-style inclusive growth model.
Mayor Kang Gijung stated, "Historically, Gwangju has always been a city of democracy. As the standard and last bastion of democracy, Gwangju will take the lead in implementing the basic society model. Just as Gwangju set the standard in care and medical services with the nation's first Gwangju-Style Integrated Care and 24-Hour Public Nighttime Children's Hospital, we will also take the lead in realizing everyday democracy and open a new growth plate for Korea."
