Presentation of Commemorative Gifts from the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs
The Busan Regional Veterans Office (Director Lee Nam-il) on the 26th presented commemorative gifts from the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to the students of Dongshin Elementary School in Busan, who first proposed the 'Uniforms for War Veterans' (2021?2022), encouraging them to take pride and grow as key figures in spreading veterans culture.
The 'Heroes in Uniform' project for war veterans' uniforms began when 24 sixth-grade students from Dongshin Elementary School in 2021 and another 24 sixth-grade students in 2022 sent handwritten letters to the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (then the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans) requesting the creation of splendid uniforms like those worn by overseas veterans for Korean war veterans. This project was promoted by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs in 2023 (for Korean War veterans) and 2024 (for Vietnam War veterans) to express national respect and gratitude.
At the event, 22 former Dongshin Elementary School students and their homeroom teacher, Mr. Seon Ho-seung, who is also a Veterans Honors Committee member, attended. Notably, Korean War veterans and Vietnam War veterans wearing the veterans' uniforms also graced the occasion.
Lee Nam-il, Director of the Busan Regional Veterans Office, said, "I express my gratitude to the Dongshin Elementary students who proposed gifting splendid uniforms to the war veterans, who are deserving of respect and honor," adding, "The Busan Regional Veterans Office will also actively strive to practice veterans affairs in everyday life."
